HS05 + M64 Home Bitcoin Mining Heater Setup Guide

Introduction

The Heat Core HS05 combined with the WhatsMiner M64 is a compact, high-efficiency Bitcoin mining system that doubles as a home heater. Designed by HeatCore in collaboration with WhatsMiner, this 5kW unit (up to 17 MBH) captures mining heat for hot water (liquid heating) or hot air (via dry cooler), or both in hybrid mode. It prioritizes liquid heat extraction through the brazed plate heat exchanger, with excess heat vented via the DC05 dry cooler fans if needed. This ensures the miner stays cool (inlet water up to 70°C in high-performance mode) while providing eco-friendly heating.

Unpacking and Site Preparation

  1. Verify packing list: HS05 cabinet + DC05 dry cooler, main power cable, HS05-DC05 power cable, HS05-DC05 pipeline.

  2. Choose location: Indoors for HS05 (e.g., basement/utility room); DC05 can detach for outdoor placement in warm weather to vent heat away.

  3. Prepare site:

    • Electrical: Dedicated 200-240V/30A outlet; 3x6mm² copper cable.

    • Plumbing: For liquid mode, prepare φ12 hoses/fittings for heat exchanger.

Liquid Heating Setup (Plumbing for Home Heating)

Connect to systems like radiant floors, hot tubs, or water heaters. Prioritizes heat to liquid; excess to air.

  1. Identify heat exchanger ports on HS05 back (supply/return; labeled or per diagram).

  2. Use φ12 barbed fittings; connect cold inlet (45°C design) and hot outlet (60°C).

  3. Install pump/valves for circulation (rated flow 5L/min).

  4. Add coolant: Mix distilled water + antifreeze + inhibitor; pH 6-8; particle size ≤53 microns.

  5. Fill internal loop via reservoir (see Filling Steps below).

  6. For anti-corrosion: UV sterilization, 4bar relief valve, expansion tank.

  7. Test pressure: ≤400kPa internal; avoid >400kPa to prevent deformation/leaks.

    • Standalone: Loop to home system.

    • With pump control: Smart thermostat to circulate only when heat needed.

Air Heating Setup (Dry Cooler Configuration)

Vents heat via DC05 fans; ideal for space heating or exhaust.

  1. Attach DC05 to HS05 (default) or detach for outdoor/remote placement (use provided long cables/pipes).

  2. Position: Secure outdoors if detached (e.g., wall-mounted); ensure airflow unobstructed.

  3. Connect power/pipeline between HS05 and DC05.

  4. Fans auto-activate if liquid can’t absorb all heat (e.g., miner inlet > set-point).

  5. For indoor heating: Place in target room; no ducting needed, but optional for distribution.

  6. Summer tip: Detach DC05 outdoors to avoid indoor heat buildup.

Electrical and Network Setup

  1. Power Wiring:

Filling and Initial Power-Up

Temperature Settings and Operation Modes

Use built-in thermostat (KCMR series) on control panel.

  • PV (top): Current temp.

  • SV (bottom): Set-point.

  • Indicators: ALM (alarm), A-T (auto-tune), OUT (control active).

Adjust:

  • Short press SET: Change SV.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

  • Overheating: Check flow (≥3.5L/min), clean filters, lower set-point.

  • No Heat: Verify power, mining active, coolant level.

  • Noise: Secure unit; normal fan operation.
